I’m A Celeb winner Richard Reid has admitted it was a “big mistake” to drop a bombshell about former Today host Karl Stefanovic while in the jungle.

Reid, who was an entertainment reporter on the Today show for seven years, revealed juicy gossip about Stefanovic’s hair to his campmate Angie Kent.

“So I go into the hair room, and this guy looks up and he’s kinda like balding,” Reid recalled from his Today days. “It was Karl Stefanovic without his spray-on hair.”

“ … And then he went away and got hair plugs. He had one of those six-week vacations and came back with (made gestures for hair plugs). And he still used the spray until it filled in.”

“Oh Karlos, bald as an eagle,” Kent replied. “God, he’d be so cross if he knew that was being spread around.”

Appearing on the Kyle and Jackie O show on Monday, Reid was confronted about the startling revelation by Kyle — a good friend of Stefanovic.

“And you told everyone about Karl Stefanovic’s hair issues … Oh, Richard,” the radio host joked.

“Oh God, that was a big mistake,” Reid groaned. “Apparently, people have thought it but no one has said it! And hey, he rocked a comb-over like nobody’s business, with a little bit of spray in his hair … dark spray.”

He added: “The thing is with Karlos, now that you look back on it, is that he’s the first person to laugh at himself. So, I guess he wasn’t planning on laughing at that, but he’ll cry all the way to the bank, won’t he?”

Reid may have confirmed Stefanovic’s secret, but it wasn’t the first time rumours had swirled about his hair.

In 2017, the Sydney Morning Herald wrote the Gold Logie winner “bowed to the pressure to maintain his beloved boyish looks and underwent a subtle hair transplant to hide thinning at the front and top of his head a few years ago”.

In 2015, Reid quit the Today show, telling fans on Facebook: “After seven glorious years, it’s time for me to step down as the reigning Gossip Guru of Today.

“My time with the Today team has been one of the wildest and most rewarding of my career. I am truly blessed.”

He opened up about his former Today co-hosts in a 2017 interview with TV Tonight, saying he was still “close friends” with Richard Wilkins and was still mates with Lisa Wilkinson. There was no mention of Stefanovic though, who was spectacularly dumped from the Channel 9 breakfast program late last year.
