3 things to watch: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel gets third season - Nine

It can be easy to find ourselves stressing out about the state of the world: from Heads of State potentially being impeached to the raging bushfires and smoke haze across the nation, all you have to do is turn on the news to find a new thing to worry about.

That's why this weekend, you should do yourself a favour and do a little online detox. In a society where we are constantly hooked up to the web, always checking for updates and consistently drowning ourselves in bad news, we need a bit of a pick-me-up near the end of the year.

So sit back, relax and enjoy these three new shows and movies to hit streaming services.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 3

The Marvelous Mrs Maisel
The Marvelous Mrs Maisel (Amazon Studios)

In 1958 New York, Midge Maisel's life is on track: husband, kids, and elegant Yom Kippur dinners in their Upper West Side apartment. But when her life takes a surprise turn, she has to quickly decide what direction to take her life in, and going from housewife to stand-up comic seems to be a wild choice to everyone but her.

What: The wildly popular story of sassy housewife-cum-comic Midge Maisel (award-winning Rachel Brosnahan) has captured hearts everywhere, and the highly anticipated third season of this laugh-a-minute show is sure to be no different. We see Midge catapult to relative stardom in her latest adventures, while still navigating her relationship with her agent and friend, as well as her family back home.

Where: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is an Amazon Prime original.

When: The new season is launching today, ready for Friday night viewing.

Marriage Story

Starring Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver, Marriage Story is as much of a drama that reflects the reality of our everyday as we're going to get. It's a simple story that, at its heart, is anything but: covering issues of love, disappointment, family, deceit and forgiveness. With a star-studded cast including supporting actors Laura Dern and Alan Alda, it's clear that this emotional movie is going to become an instant hit.

What: Charlie Barber and his wife Nicole work together in New York City as a theatre director and actress couple. Despite mounting success in their work, the couple's marriage comes under stress, and their experiences with marriage counsellors do nothing to help the situation. Moving away and taking their young son with her, Nicole navigates the complexities of her crumbling marriage to a man she stills loves deeply.

Where: After a limited theatrical release, it's now on Netflix.

When: The show launches on the streaming service today.

Star Trek movie marathon

Millions of Star Trek fans can't possibly be wrong, and the cinematic franchise of this incredibly popular universe is proof of that very fact. Based on the television series, the story follows the voyages of the starship USS Enterprise on its five-year mission, the purpose of which is "to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilisations, to boldly go where no man has gone before!"

And if that isn't the coolest thing you've ever heard, I don't know what is.

What: By some incredible act of God, a whole heap of Star Trek movies have dropped on Stan, meaning that you and all of your other very cool and not at all geeky friends can come together and enjoy the sci-fi adventure that is Star Trek.

Where: On Stan.

When: Right now: you could be watching the opening scene as quick as you can say, "Beam me up, Scotty!"
