Pussycat Dolls singer Melody Thornton reveals band’s secret feud - NEWS.com.au

Melody Thornton has opened up about how she suffered panic attacks and went to secret therapy sessions during her time with The Pussycat Dolls.

The singer, 34, revealed that she was made to feel “worthless” in the group.

She struggled with feeling sidelined after Nicole Scherzinger dominated the girl band and was given all the lead vocals.

“I lost so much confidence and felt really worthless. Because it was pointed out, over and over again, that I was the weakest link in the group,” she told The Mirror.

“And when you’re told, over and over again, ‘you’re worthless in this group’, it’s amazing how it affects you mentally.

“I started having panic attacks when I was in the group, on planes and random places. It was obvious my body was saying, ‘let’s stop doing this’.

“So I was in therapy when I was in the Dolls and maybe two years after that.”

Despite the fact that Melody was offered medication by docs, she revealed the she decided not to take any.

Her last panic attack was in 2014.

Melody wasn’t part of the original Pussycat Dolls, who started as a burlesque dance revue in Los Angeles.

She auditioned for group after she saw the Pussycat Dolls on MTV Diaries featuring Christina Aguilera and heard they were looking for a new member.

Melody was just 19 when she joined the band in 2003 with Nicole Scherzinger, Ashley Roberts, Kimberly Wyatt and Jessica Sutta.

She was given the nickname “Baby Doll” because she was the youngest group member.

Now 16 years on, Melody has told how she felt “uncomfortable” because she wasn’t allowed to sing and was told she couldn’t dance.

But she harbours no ill feeling towards Nicole, saying that the brunette stunner needed to capitalise on the opportunity.

Soon after her departure from the group, Melody released her first official single, Sweet Vendetta, in 2011.

She is now winning new fans as she competes on the UK series of Dancing on Ice.

Melody bounced back from a horror fall which saw her smash her face in rehearsals by recording new solo music in the studio.

She is hoping to relaunch her music career later this year with a Sixties-inspired sound.
